Most tomato varieties have originated from the South American Andes region, where they had been cultivated for centuries. Over the years, explorers in the 16th century distributed the tomato fruit worldwide. Purple passion has a juicy, orange, seedy edible Centre, which is highly aromatic. It’s green when unripe and turns to deep purple when it ripens. 

Sweet Passion Fruit: It has a hard shell orange-yellow in colour. Sweet passion fruit is seedy and has a white aromatic scent pulp. Unlike the other passion varieties, it’s blue when unripe and turns orange-brown when ripe.

Where is Guava From?

Guava fruits originated from Central and South America. In Kenya, Africa, guavas weren’t grown commercially until recently.  Kenya’s major guava growing areas include Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kakamega, Uasin-Gishu, Kwale, Kilifi, Meru, Homabay, Siaya, Vihiga, Mombasa, Kitui, and Taita Taveta among others. 

In partnership with USAID, Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) has distributed over 55,000 guava fruit seedlings. The partnership aims to empower Busia county farmers and increase guava fruit production in Kenya. The plant performs well in dry and agroecological regions, which explains why KARLO and other organisations are encouraging it.

Types of Guava fruits 

In Kenya, there are two predominant types of guava fruits. They are classified in terms of the colour of their flesh and skin. The types of guava fruits include red or pink, and white. Red or pink guava fruit has juice, less sugar, and less starch content. They are often less seeded or seedless. White guava fruit has more sugar, more starch content and more seeds.
